How the implant is designed
From a thin-slice CT, the fractured orbit is virtually reduced and the mirrored contralateral orbit defines the target. The implant spans stable anterior, medial, lateral and posterior landmarks, restoring the floor contour and the posteromedial bulge — the region where most reconstruction errors occur. Flanged edges lock onto intact bone, often eliminating screws.
Verification in theatre and after
- Design target: mirrored, uninjured contralateral orbit
- Critical zone: posteromedial bulge at the inferior orbital fissure
- Material: typically 0.3–0.6 mm titanium mesh
- Post-op CT overlay quantifies the achieved reduction
Outcomes
Comparative series report markedly lower rates of residual enophthalmos and diplopia with patient-specific implants versus preformed plates in complex two-wall fractures.
